Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program

The Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program is currently full. NeighborWorks® Alaska will not continue to accept applications at this time. 

Program Description

Provides temporary rental assistance up to 24 months for individuals/ families who meet the specified criteria.

Applicant Eligibility

An applicant must meet HUD’s definition of disabled (24 CFR 5.403) OR be an Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority beneficiary. Qualify as low income, defined as less than 50% of the Anchorage area median income. Must be eligible for community-based, long-term services as provided through Medicaid waivers, Medicaid state plan options, state-funded services, or other appropriate services related to the target population (i.e. Alaska Division of Behavioral Health (DBH) funded Community Behavioral Health Services Provider, or Senior and Disabilities Services (SDS) funded provider) Currently homeless, be at risk of homelessness, be precariously housed, or lack the resources necessary to obtain or retain permanent housing; AND Meet the DBH requirements of: a. Score of 8 or higher on the Vulnerability Index & Service Prioritization Decision Assistance Tool (VI-SPDAT); OR b. Enrolled in one of the following Anchorage DBH funded programs: Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) or Intensive Case Management (ICM).  

How it Works

NeighborWorks® Alaska will provide a voucher to the recipient. The recipient will then choose where he/she would like to live in the community and lease from a private landlord that will accept the voucher. The program then pays an ongoing monthly subsidy to help you with your rent and utilities. Recipients with income will pay no more than 30% of their adjusted gross income toward the housing costs. This program is open to individuals / families with zero income, provided the other eligibility requirements are met

Please be sure to submit completed applications along with all required documentation to ensure NeighborWorks® Alaska can facilitate an expedited review. Applications that are incomplete will be placed on hold until required documentation is submitted, and a new date stamp will then be placed on the application.
